What is craigslist

Not exactly the best looking site in the world.
So what exactly is Craigslist? It’s basically a global classified ad website offering very good value for money most ads are free and it’s a cost effective way for linking buyer with seller, employer with employee as well as a date with a potential mate.
But did you also know that craigslist.org is also the 25th busiest website in the world? Well it is according to Alexa (a website ranking system). I must say reading the list of the top 100 domains [as of 12th July 2009] is a bit if an eye opener and to discover that craigslist is just under EBay which is in 24th place is just extraordinary.
Here’s a list of the top 30 domains on the Internet:

Craigslist is the brainchild of Craig Newmark, and has become one of the most popular sites on the Internet. Started in San Francisco in 1995, craigslist is perhaps the ultimate site for classified listings. It offers job advertisements, personal ads, ads for cars, pets, home supplies and a plethora of other choices. The website is built around communities, and craigslist now offers sites in 450 cities and throughout the world.
Well I must say it’s all starting to become a bit of an eye opener. Internet marketing is the key and if you can do that well, driving traffic to your website whilst remaining scrupulously honest, offering good solid useful advise and information then welcome to the extremely hard working life of being the webmaster of a popular blog.
Craigslist’s humble beginnings started by providing classified ads for the San Francisco area, started in 1995 by an Internet entrepreneur (read marketer) and now covers over 450 cities worldwide oand deals with not just the buying and selling of goods like EBay but offers afar more eclectic variety of goods and services including housing, personal ads and job vacancies which can tend to make it a bit of a global free-for-all.
To sum up:
Craigs list is a very useful site ‘small ads’ site offering many of it’s services free of charge and is reported to serve over 30 million people per month.
